Honest, practical, and clearly written from experience
I really appreciated how real this book felt. You can tell Ted Manby isn’t writing about church conflict as some abstract topic. A lot of what he shares comes from actually living through difficult situations, and that made the book feel much more personal to me. I especially liked the way he separates normal disagreement from the kind of conflict that becomes destructive, because I think that’s an important distinction that can easily get missed. The biblical focus is also a big part of what makes the book useful. There’s a lot here about forgiveness, courage, handling difficult people, protecting your ministry, and staying grounded when things around you are falling apart. I also liked that the book didn’t pretend conflict is easy or painless. At times, I felt some sections went on a little longer than necessary, and there were places where the amount of quoted material slowed me down. But overall, I came away feeling like this was written to genuinely help pastors who may be going through something painful and don’t know where to start.
